On Thursday morning, I heard that we could watch as NASA landed Perseverance on Mars. I didn’t think there would be much for the kids to “see,” but since they enjoyed watching SpaceX launch in May, we decided to check it out.
It was a lot of fun! Our kids were intrigued after hearing about the 7 minutes of terror and watching the landing simulations. It was wonderful to see the team celebrate the successful landing and a photo of Mars appear. It made us all curious to learn more about Perseverance and all that it could accomplish.
Since then we’ve enjoyed finding Perseverance on Google Mars, reading about how it will collect soil and rock samples, how this mission could help future scientists that are kids now, seeing a photo of Perseverance as it was landing and seeing photos of buildings from California to New York lit red to celebrate.
We are excited to see more images, hear sounds, and learn more about Perseverance as it completes its mission.
